There is no doubt that Spain is an ideal destination for those looking for a holiday to remember.

The Spanish know how to live life to its fullest – constantly being able to strike the perfect balance between downtime with their afternoon siestas,party-time and year-round fiestas. If you are looking for the ultimate holiday that centres on both savouring and celebrating life, then heading to Spain is definitely the right choice. But not sure when and where to go to make the most of the Spanish traditions, festivals and lifestyle? Here are our favourite Spanish holiday destinations perfect for festival-lovers:
La Tomatina — Buñol

The Spanish love a good food fight – fact. The quintessential food fight festival, La Tomatina, takes place at the end of every August in the Valencian town of Buñol – one of the ultimate Spanish holiday destinations for festival fans. Hundreds of locals and tourists alike flock to Buñol to partake in the exhilarating festival where participants lob tomatoes at each other, purely for the fun of it and, of course, all in the spirit of tradition. If you are looking for something different, crazy and fun all while being totally immersed in Spanish culture, then head to the charming town of Buñol.
Festa Major de Grácia — Grácia

One of the best Spanish holiday destinations for those looking for incredible festivals is Grácia, and the best time to go is also in August. Colourful, vibrant and exciting, the annual festival, which takes place in the streets of Grácia near Barcelona, has a little something for everyone. Basically, one big street party that lasts eight days, festival goers (normally over a million of them) can expect to find free concerts, family activities, festival souvenir shops and awe-inspiring decorations scattered around town.

Día de Los Reyes Magos — Madrid

Most of the western world exchange Christmas gifts on the 25th of December, but the Spanish like to break the mould. Instead, they celebrate it on the dates that the Three Kings were said to visit Jesus, bearing gifts for him. On the eve of the 5th of January, huge parades are held in the streets of most towns throughout Spain, with the Three Kings showering children with candy. The next morning, children receive the gifts that the kings had brought them. Although there are many places to enjoy this festival, to get the full experience head to one of the bigger cities, and one of our suggested Spanish holiday destinations to enjoy this festival has to be Madrid!

Els Enfarinats — Ibi

One of the Spanish holiday destinations that needs to go on your bucket list is the town of Ibi. The annual celebration of Els Enfarinats takes place in Ibi, in Alicante (one of the best holiday destinations in Spain) in December. This interesting (and incredibly fun) festival dates back some 200 years ago and the festival runs for one day only. During this festival you will witness a group of ‘flour men’ (Els Enfarinats) dress up in military wear, make satirical speeches (largely relating to politics), impose strange rules and have a mock battle with flour, eggs (what did I say about the Spanish and food fights?), firecrackers and fire extinguishers. It’s certainly a messy one, so be sure to wear some old clothes and have a change of clothes handy.

La Fiesta de Moros y Cristianos — Alicante

The festival of Moors and Christians dates back to the 16th century but actually celebrates the victory over the Moors in the 13th century. The best Spanish holiday destinations to enjoy this festival are all in the province of Alicante, with experiencing it in the town of Alicante being first prize. Here festival goers will enjoy a spectacle of a lifetime with locals dressed as soldiers, street parades, and reenactments of battles.

If you are looking for the ideal location to make the most of these wonderful festivals, then look no further than Calpe, along the Costa Blanca in the province of Alicante. Not only will you be able to get the best of the blue flag beaches and costal town but also the unbelievable festivals that happen in and around the area.
