The fast pace of life these days makes it hard to be in the moment and appreciate your loved ones. Going on a family holiday is something every family should aspire to do – even if it’s just for a weekend. It gives you time to reconnect and make unforgettable memories. If you’re not sure about which destination to go to, here are some awesome destinations for family weekend breaks:

Bay of Naples, Italy

Naples is Italy’s third largest city and is famously known for the still-active volcano, that destroyed the nearby Roman town Pompeii. Kids of all ages will love the food, including pasta, seafood, delicious pastries, and pizza of course (it is the birthplace of wood-fired pizza after all). Its southern location makes it a great base for travelling to other popular Italian destinations, such as Sicily, Sardinia, the ancient ruins of Pompeii, and the stunning Amalfi Coast. Families can take a hike around the peak of Mount Vesuvius, marvel at the archaeological sites that were buried under metres of volcanic debris for centuries, or swim in the azure waters of Fornillo and Spiaggia Grande beach.

Berlin, Germany

Berlin, the capital, and largest city of Germany, is renowned for its abundance of attractions, its flourishing cultural scene, and a lifestyle that is both laid-back and fast-paced. With more than 170 museums, leading orchestras, a variety of theatres, and three major opera houses – Berlin is a paradise for lovers of arts and culture. Get lost in charming Unter den Linden, explore the wonders of Museum Island, take selfies in front of Brandenburg Gate (a monument modelled on the Acropolis in Athens), or take a stroll in the Grunewald forest. If your trip is during summer, make sure to take a dip in the Strandbad Grünau, one of Berlin’s lovely lake beaches.

Nice, France

Considered the centre of the French Riviera, Nice is a great destination for family weekend breaks. With its sunny weather and breathtaking seaside scenery, there are plenty of outdoor activities to enjoy. Take a stroll along Promenade des Anglais, soak up some sun on one of the world famous beaches, admire the beautiful coastline from Castle Hill, and get lost in the charming streets of Vieille Ville (Old Town). Nice also has museums, churches and ruins to keep history buffs happy for days. Families can also taste some of the best cheese and sausages at Cours Saleya market, or enjoy some sorbet at the city’s number one ice cream parlour, Fenocchio.

Calpe, Spain

If you are looking for a destination that has something for everyone, then Calpe will be right up your alley. With sun, sand, and sea – it’s easy to fall in love with this beautiful coastal town. With an abundance of activities, ranging from tours of historical sites to boat excursions, and from exploring the outdoors to lazing on the beach, this town has no shortage of amazing things to do in the summer.

Calpe has maintained its sleepy fishing village charm, even though it has become a tourist magnet over the years. Explore the Natural Park of Penyal d'Ifach, feast on delicious Spanish and Mediterranean cuisine, or take a dip in one of Calpe’s pristine beaches.
